INGREDIENTES PARA FAZER O HAMBÚRGUER DE LENTILHA

  • Seasonings : salt, soy sauce, bay leaves, garlic powder , cumin powder, black pepper and fresh parsley. You can vary it according to your preference.
  • Flaxseed : links to the recipe. Using it means that we need to use less oatmeal in the recipe, which makes the lentil burger lighter. We use it in the form of flour, which can be made at home by grinding the flaxseeds well.
  • Lentil : this is the main ingredient and can be any of the “firmer” types, such as green, brown or French. Do not use red or yellow lentils here.
  • Cooked rice : it can be of the whole or white type. It helps with the texture of the preparation. If you prefer, quinoa is a good example of a substitute.
  • Oatmeal : gives structure to the recipe, making the burgers more consistent. It also absorbs moisture and provides bonding. We use it in the form of oatmeal, which you can make at home by mixing rolled oats in a blender or food processor until it turns into a flour. Use gluten-free oats if necessary.
  1. Onion, celery stalk and carrot : to make the burger tastier, providing texture at the same time.

For not taking eggs, we have a vegan lentil burger here . It is also gluten-free and flour-free, as we use oats and flaxseeds in the recipe.

vegan lentil burger

This lentil burger is so yummy. Unlike many other vegetarian and vegan burgers, it has texture, is not crumbly and also does not resemble a soft paste. It is firm, beautiful and tasty , both in the roasted and fried version. In addition, it is made with simple and accessible ingredients , without any complications.

It’s great as a snack , served with bread with mayonnaise, for example, but it can also compose a lighter everyday dish with salad or consumed as a smaller snack .

HOW TO MAKE LENTIL BURGER

  • Cook the lentils until they are cooked through but still firm. Don’t let it get too soft, as this affects the texture of the hamburger. In the recipe, we indicate the amount of water to cook, but check before drying. It is possible that some broth will remain – we will not use it to make the hamburger, but if you don’t want to discard it, you can save it to use in other preparations, such as stews.
  • Divide the cooked lentil into equal portions.
  • In a food processor, add half of the cooked lentils, vegetables and seasonings until well blended. Don’t worry about turning it into a smooth paste, it’s important to have texture.
  • Mix the ingredients mixture in a bowl with the rest of the cooked lentils, oatmeal and flaxseeds, and chopped fresh parsley. Feel the dough with your hands. She shouldn’t be too tight. If necessary, add more oats or flaxseeds – but wait a few minutes before doing this, as both absorb more moisture over time.
  • Shape the burgers to the desired size.
  • Cook. The lentil burger can be baked in the oven or pan fried. Both versions are great.

The Lentil Burger is delicious!
Easy to make, it takes simple and whole ingredients, being a great snack or main dish option.

Ingredients

  • Cooked Lentil:
  • 1 cup raw and soaked lentils (see notes)

  • 2 cups of water

  • 2 bay leaves

  • 1 teaspoon of soy sauce

  • Lentil Burger:
  •  1 large onion

  • 1 cup cooked rice (brown or white, preferably unseasoned)

  • 1 cup grated raw carrots

  • 1/3 cup chopped raw celery stalk

  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder

  • 1 tablespoon of soy sauce*

  • salt to taste (I use around 1+1/2 teaspoon in total)

  • black pepper to taste

  • 1 cup chopped fresh parsley

  • 1/2 cup oat flour

  • 2 tablespoons of flaxseed flour

Directions

  • Start by cooking the lentils.
If you have soaked the lentils, drain the water, wash the beans and add them to a medium saucepan with bay leaves, water and soy sauce.
Cook over medium heat until the lentil is cooked through, but still firm, without falling apart.
Drain excess water (broth) if necessary and discard the bay leaves.
  • Divide the cooked lentil into two parts.
  • Add half of the lentil in a food processor along with the chopped onion, chopped celery stalk, grated carrot, cooked rice, salt,
garlic powder , cumin powder and soy sauce.
Whisk until the ingredients are well blended and most of the pieces are broken.
Scrape the sides of the food processor with a spatula if necessary and continue beating.
  • Transfer this mixture to a large bowl along with the other half of the cooked lentils and add the oatmeal, flaxseed meal, black pepper to taste and chopped fresh parsley.
Mix well so that all the ingredients are incorporated.
Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary, as well as the amount of oatmeal and/or flaxseed.
  • Wet your hands and shape the dough into hamburgers the size you want.
  • Cook the way you like.
You can bake the lentil burger in an oven at 180 degrees for approximately 30 minutes, until golden brown, flipping halfway through.
It is also possible to fry in a skillet with a drizzle of vegetable oil, over medium heat, turning when golden.
  • Serve with wholemeal bread, cashew nut mayonnaise , avocado mayonnaise and assorted fresh leaves. Yam or Sweet Potato Chips also go very well. If you want a lighter version, you can serve it with salads and as a component of the main meal. In a smaller size, it’s a great snack or snack.
